John McCain will meet privately with Barack Obama at his transition headquarters in Chicago today.

Our forecast for the Windy City: icy on the inside.

Presidential elections are rarely friendly, but in this one, McCain seemed to harbor a particularly strong disdain for his rival.

The feeling appears mutual.

Remember the first presidential debate, when McCain refused to look at Obama?

Or the second debate, when the Arizona Senator raised some eyebrows for referring to his opponent as “that one?”

Even in his otherwise-eloquent concession speech, McCain was dismissive of his rival. He lauded Obama’s win as a historical milestone, but said little of his character.

At today’s session, the pair will be joined by their attack dogs — err, aides, Congressman Rahm Emanuel (Obama’s newly-anointed Chief of Staff) and Senator Lindsey Graham (McCain’s close friend and campaign surrogate).

Oh, to be a fly on the wall . . .

We’ve spent many months following the progress of Belvedere Adrian’s 1966 Plymouth Belvedere race car, but we’ve never mentioned the theme this team will be using. Now, anyone from California will tell you there’s only one possible theme for an old Belvedere…

The Imposters’ Belvedere has one yellow door, so the race car’s original color was retained there. Now let’s watch another ad! These chickens are serious about winning! Senior standout guard Kristi Tolliver could only grimace as the final buzzer sounded.

This isn’t the start that Tolliver or Coach Brenda Friese envisioned when the team went 33-4 and advanced to the Regional Final last year.

“Obviously we didn’t come out with the same sense of urgency that they did and they capitalized on it,” said a disappointed Tolliver.

But she quickly displayed her positive leadership skills adding, “It’s better to start the season this way then end it like this. We’re going to remain as optimistic as possible.”

Host Texas Christian University kept Maryland’s offense in check and forced 17 turnovers, en route to an 80-68 upset victory.

Led by TK La Fleur’s 28 points, TCU took advantage of starting the game on an 11-0 run, and opened the second half scoring nine straight points.

After that run, TCU never relinquished the lead.

Besides LaFleur’s performance, in which she made 10 of 17 shots, the Lady Frogs got ample support from forward Helena Sverrisdotir, who poured in 18 points respectively.

It’s a credit to the swarming defense of TCU that led to the dismal offensive showing from the UMD women.

Maryland shot 34 percent from the field making 22 of 64 shots.

It’s going to be a lesson in patience for Coach Frese, as she has to find a replacement for All-American forward Crystal Langhorne. (graduated)

Langhorne’s average of 21 points per game and eight rebounds can’t be duplicated right away.

Maryland is depending on three sophomores and four freshmen to complement the experience of Kristi Tolliver.

That’s a great sign for the Terps, if this is the kind of game to expect from a player, without the seasoned pedigree, that they are accustomed to having in the huddle.

Still, this night belonged to Coach Jeff Mitty and his Lady Frogs.

He and his girls sent a memo to the Lady Terps they soon won’t forget.

Pomona’s “Sugar” Shane Mosley said he has agreed to a 50/50 split to set up a fight with world welterweight champion Antonio Margarito of Tijuana.

But Mosley also claims that Margarito has gone M.I.A.

“He’s hiding, nobody can find him,” Mosley said. “Someone told him the fight was on, but I’m hearing they can’t bring him in to agree to it.”

Boxing sources familiar with the situation say Margarito was invited to the Las Vegas offices of his promoter, Top Rank, last week, but failed to show. Money is the suspected cause of the delay, according to a source who asked to remain anonymous because he is not permitted to speak publicly.

Mosley, the former four-time champion who is coming off of a knockout victory over Ricardo Mayorga, said he’s already made a significant compromise by agreeing to the revenue split for the fight that’s expected to occur in late January in Las Vegas.

“I’m more of the draw. I didn’t want to give him 50/50, but I wanted to get the fight done,” Mosley said. “I could’ve made more fighting [unbeaten Andre] Berto. I’ll bring most of the people to this fight.If he holds out any longer, I’m going to change the prices on him.”

Mosley also confirmed an earlier ESPN.com report that he has parted ways with his trainer-father, Jack, who will help to develop the boxing skills of Mosley’s son, Shane Jr. Mosley said he will work with Nazim Richardson, who is Bernard Hopkins’ trainer.

“Nazim has agreed to work with me, and we’ll get up to Big Bear as soon as possible, as soon as we see what’s going on with Margarito,” Mosley said. “If he was thinking I’m afraid to fight him, he’s wrong. I’m ready to fight.”

In their report, published in the journal Biology Letters, the two scientists interpret this change as being evolutionarily useful ? it’s an “enhanced femininity” signal, which might make mating more likely at the approach of ovulation, a time more likely to result in a pregnancy.
